The purpose of the role is to work in the equinox Lectio team as an underwriter focusing on Financial Lines business to help deliver growth and expansion of this cross class underwriting facility.
Key Role Accountabilities:
- Daily tasks can include, but are not limited to:
- Review risks and submissions received from the brokers to assess if the risk is in line with the criteria set out in the Delegated Underwriting Agreement (DUA).
- Liaise with brokers to explain where these risks are outside of this scope and why we are declining
- Send formal offers of lines on risks that are in scope, ensuring the line size is within those set out in the DUA, particularly across complex multi-layer programs
- Checking firm order slips meet requirements and formally binding lines via PPL or Whitespace.
- Review and agree or refer endorsements.
- Send final slips for processing and, where required, aggregate teams for reporting to insurers.
- Oversight and management of portfolio accumulation including contractual catastrophe aggregate limits.
- Build good working relationships with the broking teams.
- Build good working relationships with capacity providers.
- Manage a team of Lectio underwriters and underwriting assistants.
- Work with Head of Cross class to improve efficiency, particularly in processes specific to Marine and Energy
- Participate in regular insurer meetings to review progress of the facility.
- Participate in regular team meetings to:
- Review our progress against targets
- identify and suggest improvements for growth areas.
- Option to participate in:
- review of other data and reports if suitable
- DUA renewal and endorsements throughout the year
- Delivery of daily tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Working compliantly with the Authority delegated by insurers
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years Insurance experience desired.
- Familiar with the layout of the London MRC contract.
- Experience with underwriting submissions.
- Knowledge of Financial Lines insurance is desired
- A-levels with GCSE (or equivalent) passes in Maths and English
- High level proficiency in MS Outlook, Word and Excel – PowerPoint experience can be beneficial also.
- Strong negotiation, influencing skills, analytical, verbal and written communication skills are valuable.
Person Specification:
- You should be comfortable working with employees at all organisational levels, and will be the contact person for Financial Lines business, and working with them to provide solutions for their clients.
- The role will be hybrid, split between the office and working from home. As such you should have the ability to be self-motivated/disciplined.
- Accuracy and attention to detail is critical as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities during busy periods.
- You should be prepared to teach the junior team members features of Financial Lines classes and help them understand so they can develop and assist more with your when workloads required.
