Manager says:
The purpose of the role is to support the underwriting team by delivering outstanding claims service to clients, ensuring fair outcomes for all parties, while upholding regularly standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversea entire claims process from first notice to resolution with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Review complex claims and make recommendations for settlement as necessary
- Collaborate closely with Underwriters, Brokers, Medical Professionals, Finance and other internal teams to ensure integrated claims management and resolution
- Ensure claims decisions are accurate, fair, and timely, in accordance with policy wording, regulatory requirements, and internal standards
- Accurate maintenance of claim files and records in line with GDPR and data privacy best practices.
- Contribute to internal claims reviews, MI analysis, and process development.
- Managing relationships with capacity providers and their claims teams
- Hold regular claim meetings with brokers and key clients as necessary
- Effectively manage and resolve complaints in accordance with regulatory requirements and market standards
- Responsible for monitoring and managing the claims float and ensuring the accurate and timely reconciliation of claims bordereaux (BDXs)
- Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience handling A&H claims or related lines
- London Market experience preferred but not essential
- Desirable – qualified or working towards professional qualification such as Cert CII or Dip CII
- Skilled in interpreting policy wordings, assessing coverage and negotiating fair and timely settlements with minimal supervision
- Highly empathetic and emotionally intelligent, with excellent interpersonal skills and a calm, reassuring manner when dealing with claims of a sensitive nature.
- Comfortable working with confidential medical data, with a solid understanding of data protection standards.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with both internal & external stakeholders
- Robust knowledge of reserving principles and practices, along with a good understanding of coinsurance and reinsurance applications
- Demonstrated ability to manage claims independently, showing high levels of self-discipline, initiative and accountability
- Proven skills in handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment without compromising on accuracy
- Confident in handling and resolving complaints in line with FCA, Lloyd’s and internal MGA standards, ensuring customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance
- Proactive in improving claim handling process and contributing to the continuous development of the MGA’s claims operations
Person Specification:
This is a specialist role requiring someone with both technical expertise and strong emotional intelligence, as they will be responsible for handling sensitive, complex claims that involve potentially career-ending medical events.
The ideal candidate needs to be someone who is autonomous and self-disciplined as they will be handling the entire claims process on their own, supporting a small team of Underwriters who has built a highly reputable book in the London Market on the basis of product expertise and exceptional claims service.
Ambition and drive are also ideal as there will be opportunities, as the team grows, for the candidate to move into a claims management role; to shape claims strategy, refine internal practices and contribute to wider portfolio oversight.
